Charging an object by Induction
Charging by induction: In charging by induction, charging is done without touching the charged body to the object that has to be charged. For example, a charged glass rod is brought close to a metal object, but does not touch it.If a charged body is brought near an uncharged body then neutral body becomes oppositely charged. We can charge any type of material body.
In the figure above when a charged rod is bring closer to the neutral sphere then there occur redistribution of the charge with in the sphere. When we bring a negatively charged electrode closer to the sphere , the positive charge get accumulated in the face of the sphere facing the rod. If we remove the electrode the sphere will get uncharged again . To get a positively charged sphere the negative charge of the sphere has to be removed by earthing.
